Éxtasis Fatuo es una imagen de realidad virtual que puede experimentarse a través de unas gafas RV. El título pertenece a un verso del poema de Baudelaire: La máscara. En él, el poeta alaba la belleza de una estatua creada para custodiar una tumba. Quien entra en el cementerio se deleita mirándola y Baudelaire nos recuerda que tal belleza fue concebida para guardar la muerte. Mi fotografía no fue tomada en un cementerio, sino en El Rastro, en Madrid, el mercado más tradicional de la ciudad. Una de las curiosidades que se ven en el mercado son las tiendas de antigüedades que exponen sus objetos al aire libre. Las estatuas que fotografié se exponen en la calle Ribera de Curtidores y atraen la atención de personas para las que el objeto artístico es simplemente pintoresco, por lo que se toman selfies allí.
La imagen que muestro es un artificio, el color negro llena el espacio de misterio y lo convierte en una visión dramatizada. Como en las pinturas barrocas, una escena tradicional se representa con una iluminación dramática que tiene la capacidad de transformar lo apolíneo en dionisiaco. Las estatuas cobran vida a través de la realidad virtual; al perder su dimensión física, se transforman en espíritus y parecen mucho más reales. La realidad virtual y la dimensión digital son la nueva piedra que mantiene viva una imagen de belleza que sobrevive a la muerte. Éxtasis fatuo el de la tecnología y la piedra.

Éxtasis Fatuo (Fatuous Ecstasy) is a virtual reality image that can be experienced through VR glasses. The title comes from a line of Baudelaire's poem: The Mask. In it, the poet praises the beauty of a statue created to guard a tomb. Whoever enters the cemetery is delighted looking at it and Baudelaire reminds us that such beauty was conceived to guard death. My photograph was not taken in a cemetery, but in El Rastro, in Madrid, the most traditional market of the city. One of the curiosities to be seen in the market are the antique stores that display their objects in the open air. The statues I photographed are exhibited in Ribera de Curtidores street and attract the attention of people for whom the artistic object is simply picturesque, so they take many selfies there.
The image I show is an artifice, the black color fills the space with mystery and turns it into a dramatized vision. As in baroque paintings, a traditional scene is represented with dramatic lighting that has the ability to transform the Apollonian into the Dionysian. Statues come to life through virtual reality; losing their physical dimension, they are transformed into spirits and appear much more real. Virtual reality and the digital dimension are the new stone that keeps alive an image of beauty that survives death. Fatuous ecstasy that of technology and stone.
